Captain's Log, Day 226: We urgently need more public education about conservation here in Ecuador. Felipe, the first Andean Condor to be tagged and monitored post-rescue and release, was found dead April 12th of a bullet wound. Share and help spread awareness, respect for nature, and knowledge of the ecological importance of animals such as the Andean Condor in Ecuador.

Necesitamos mas educacion publico sobre la conservacion de animales urgentamente en Ecuador. Felipe, el primer condor etiquetado y monitoreado en Ecuador, fue asesinado el 12 de abril. Compartir y crear conciencia, respeto por la naturaleza, y conocimiento de la importancia ecológica de animales en Ecuador.

Without the support of a more aggressive, nationwide public conservation education program, our efforts could be for naught. 

Rest in Peace, Felipe. Hard lessons: we have to do better next time. A conference will be held in Quito on April 25th to discuss actions to seriously guard against such senseless deaths in the future.
